GEMS

Welcome to GEMS 2011-2012

GEMS girls club stands for Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior. It’s purpose is to bring girls into a living relationship with Jesus Christ.  GEMS club is for all girls grades kindergarten through 5th.
Our goal for every club meeting is to grow bigger hearts. Together, we will learn how to love and care for one another, other people, and our selves.  And we’ll do this by learning about Jesus Christ, what he has done for us and his plan for each of our lives.
During our club meetings we sing, do crafts, play games, earn merit badges, learn about the Bible, make new friends and grow to love Jesus.
Don’t miss out on all the fun, come check us out Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:15. We would love to have you join us. Bring a friend.

Get Wisdom: Go beyond the Gold!

Each year, a Scripture passage is selected and a theme is developed around that Scripture to make the passage come alive for the girls. Bible studies, service projects, crafts, games, and other fun activities are created to teach the truth of God’s Word that is found in the theme.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10

How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver! The highway of the upright avoids evil; he (she) who guards his (her) way guards his (her) life.Proverbs 16:16-17

The heart of this theme is the life lesson that we must fear the LORD. The term “to fear” can describe everything from dread (Deuteronomy 1:29) or being terrified (Jonah 1:16) to standing in awe (1 Kings 3:28) and having reverence (Leviticus 19:3). It is a shrinking back in recognition of the holiness, power, and autonomy of God and the drawing close in awe, reverence, and worship.

Sadly, Romans 3:18 accurately describes our culture today. There is no fear of God before their eyes. In neglecting to fear God and His judgment, the world has gone wild instead of wise, denying the moral standards of God’s Word and living like they did in the days of the judges where everyone did as he (she) saw fit (Judges 21:25).

When we fear God and make wise choices, we will make good decisions that protect our lives from sin and its consequences and keep us on the highway of the upright and the path of the wise. The book of Proverbs, God’s handbook on wisdom and our primary book of study for this theme, will teach us to do just that.
