Dear RPRC family,
This week’s letter comes from our beloved, Mary Wisner.
For the next several weeks I am going to share with you what I’ve been learning in the book of Job. Pastor Mark is graciously allowing me to use this weekly letter to the church platform for this purpose.
Recently, I was diagnosed with a tumor on the brain and have subsequently had it removed. I complained and compared myself to Job. I’ve lost independence (temporarily I hope). I need help with many things. There are watchful eyes on my activities. And I am not able to drive. While studying Job, I came up with the usual platitudes: God is in control. He is sovereign. Be a good friend. Why bad things happen to good people. I even thought of Job as a type of Christ.
Eventually, I was led to ask the question, “What does Job tell us about God?” It’s been fun and helpful. I want you to contemplate your approach to God. I simply copied here from a website containing 5 views of God that people use frequently. The title paragraphs are self-explanatory so you can use them as food for thought.
God is a ...
1. Genie – make a wish, candy dispenser, name it and claim it.
2. Fire Truck - ready to put out flames.
3. Tormentor - wrath of God ever waiting to find you deficit.
4. Task master – performance matters.
5. Friend – He is there when I need Him.

Until next week, may the peace of Christ be with you,
Mary Wisner
