Dear RPRC Family,
This week’s letter comes from our beloved Mary Wisner…
We continue to look at who God is through the book of Job. Let’s talk about Him as a restorer.
Job was a wealthy man. Rich pretty much beyond measure but he loses it all, even his health. At the end of his trial, God restores Job’s health and fortunes giving him twice as much. (42:10).
Does Job’s story promise restoration of fortunes lost? Perhaps. I think the bigger picture is bringing the sufferer into a better place.
If you have ever done furniture refinishing, the restored piece looks as nice or better than it did originally. It’s a lot of hard work. First it must be hauled out of the dark place it was stored, stripped of all its old finish, rubbed and sanded, and then the new is applied. Life is a lot like a restoration project. Broken and worn out due to sin and trials, God promises to bring about restoration. 1st Peter 5:10 says “After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
Next time you are thinking you are too broken, or life is too hard, set your mind on God, the restorer. Remember, you are never beyond repair to God. John 3:16 promises that through His son, Jesus Christ, that the believer will not perish but have eternal life. Life eternal is the ultimate restoration.
May His hand be upon you,
Mary Wisner
